A
broken water pipe in the ceiling of the second floor of
a Cortland home was the cause of devastating property damage
during the winter months. The water, which leaked for at
least several weeks, saturated the second and first floors,
as well as the basement, of this three story home.
The
homeowner, who was out of state for the winter, was made
aware of the damages when her contractor went to check on
the home for her. She called her insurance agent, Tanner-Ibbotson
in Cortland, to report the claim. The agent immediately
contacted Stanley Steemer to go to the home and get the
property under control.
The
damages were staggering to this older home, creating irreparable
damages to to the flooring, walls and ceilings throughout
the majority of the home and creating an ideal breeding
ground for mold. This necessitated the gutting of the majority
of the home to restore the home and remove the mold.
Stanley
Steemer's technicians began the major project by cleaning
and removing all of the contents of the home and placed
them in a secure storage trailer on premises. Then the demolition
process began. The interior of the home was constructed
with metal mesh under plaster, with blown-in insulation,
all of which needed to be removed.
After
the walls, ceilings and floors were removed, the mold remediation
took place. The home was hepa-vaccumed, sanded, and hepa-vaccumed
again. The home was treated with Sporiciden to eliminate
mold spores and disinfect the home. Large air scrubbers
were used throughout the home during the process to cleanse
the air. Additionally, a fungicidal sealant was applied
to the basement.
During
the process, Stanley Steemer's technicians also removed
thousands of nails from the structure, to make for a seamless
transition to reconstruction. |
