Stanley
Steemer mitigates damages and rebuilds home in under two
weeks
An improperly
maintained wood stove caught fire causing significant smoke
and chemical damage throughout a Bridgeport home in December.
The
stove had not been inspected or cleaned for years, which
lead to the fire breaking out. The homeowners were not present
when the fire occurred, however a neighbor who was stopping
by heard the fire alarm and entered the home to see the
wood stove on fire. After calling the fire department, the
neighbor began shoveling snow on the fire which prevented
it from spreading throughout the home.
The
homeowner’s insurance company called Stanley Steemer
to mitigate the damages and work began the next day.
Step
1: Winterize the home.
To prevent further damage due to the home having no utilities,
the water lines were drained, the hot water tank was drained
and a generator and portable heating unit were installed
just outside the home.
Step
2: Remove all soft goods.
The first step in the cleaning process involved removing
all the soft goods from the home for cleaning off-premises.
This included clothing, furniture, drapery, etc.
Step
3: Demolition
After removing the soft goods, all the charred portions
of the wall and ceiling were removed and discarded.
Step
4: Cleaning and wipe down.
The fine detail cleaning began at this point, which includes
wiping down all affected surfaces throughout the home and
HEPA vacuuming the fine dust. Ozone treatments were also
done to remove the smoke odor.
Step
5: Reconstruction.
The wall and ceiling around the wood stove were replaced,
and the patterned ceiling was blended to match. The front
door, which was kicked in, was replaced and the kitchen
and living room were repainted.
Stanley
Steemer managed the entire project, completing the cleaning
and rebuild in just under two weeks. |
