SOLSVILLE,
NY, FEB. 2006 — A four-bedroom farmhouse suffered severe
damages when a bedroom fire was ignited from a faulty heating
pad. The fire gutted the room, plus the adjoining bedroom, damaged
a hallway, sent smoke throughout the upstairs and water saturated
the upstairs as well as the kitchen below the bedrooms.
Stanley Steemer
technicians arrived at the home one hour after the emergency call
to review the scope with the adjuster. Teams of four technicians
worked on the home each day, completely mitigating the damage
in four days.
The first
step in this restoration was to remove all the fire-damaged contents
and structural components that could not be saved. This included
the walls, ceiling and carpeting in the two affected bedrooms,
as well as burned personal contents in those rooms.
Following
this, all smoke-damaged contents were wiped down with a soot-removing
formula and placed into a storage trailer on the property. The
trailer was then treated with ozone which destroys any remaining
smoke particles and removes any lingering odor. The ozone converts
back to oxygen shortly after use, leaving behind no trace or odors.
Due to the
volume of water needed to fight the fire, several large low-grain
dehumidifiers were installed in the home, along with airmovers.
The home was dried in two days.
Finally, the
upstairs was treated with a wet-fogger which produces a mist similar
to smoke which traps smoke particles and odors, removing all trace
of smells. The hallways walls and ceilings were then sealed with
primer and the home was ready for reconstruction on the fifth
day after the fire.
