Swift Response Gets Northeast Medical Center Back

FAYETTEVILLE, NY, MARCH 2006 — The Northeast Medical Center, a 205,000-square-foot premiere state-of-the-art medical center, suffered massive water damage early in the morning on March 21.

A broken water supply line on the third floor of the southern wing was the cause of the damage. The water saturated eight medical suites on the first through third floors.

The property is managed by Longley Jones Management, and upon learning of the damage, they placed an emergency call to Stanley Steemer at 4:00 am. The lead technician for Stanley Steemer was at the location within an hour, and seven service vehicles arrived within two hours. By 7:30 am, 15 technicians were onsite mitigating the damages.

Water flowed through the ceilings and walls of the suites, saturating both structural components and contents, including medical records, equipment, etc. Stanley Steemer’s technicians finished the initial extraction of water, baseboard removal, ceiling tile removal, performed a thorough cleanup and installed all the drying equipment by 2:30 pm in all the effected suites.
The suites on the third floor required two large LGR dehumidifiers and 17 airmovers. These suites remained operational during the mitigation process.

The most heavily damaged floor was the second floor, which required seven large LGR dehumidifiers and 37 airmovers. The suites on that floor began to see patients again two to three days after the damage occurred.

The first floor, which had heavy damage to the walls and storage areas required two injectidry wall drying units, 10 large LGR dehumidifiers, a mobile desiccant dehumidifier and 42 airmovers. Because the contents were still usable, the first floor suites were able to take all patients as the mitigation took place.

Overall, the majority of the building was dry on Friday, the fourth day after the damage, and the smaller wet spots were dry by Sunday.

Seven different insurance companies were involved with the damaged suites. The center features St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center’s Surgical Center, Clinical Wound Center,Sleep Apnea Center and a modern Urgent Care Center. In addition, the center features a diversified network of topnotch physicians and providers.
