A malfunctioning washing machine on the second floor of a Clinton, NY, home gushed water for hours sending it cascading through the second floor, first floor and basement of the home. The damages occurred on a weekend and the homeowners contacted their agent on the following Monday, who put them in touch with Stanley Steemer to begin damage mitigation immediately.
The first step in the mitigation, after mapping the moisture throughout the house, was to extract the standing water in the basement. Contents on the first and second floor were then moved to allow for the removal of certain areas of flooring, ceilings and walls. On the second floor, the laminate flooring in the hallway had buckled and was removed. Ceilings in three rooms on the first floor had to be removed, and hardwood floors throughout the first floor were saturated and cupping. Stanley Steemer installed the hardwood floor drying panels with an Injectidry system throughout the first floor to dry the floors.
To dry the structure and wet contents in the home, a trailer-mounted desiccant dehumidifier was installed with ducts running through all three floors of the home. After four days of running the desiccant, all readings confirmed that the walls and ceilings were dry. After five days, the hardwood floors had returned to their normal moisture content.
The owner of the home is a contractor and had completely remodeled the home over the past few years. All structural repairs were going to be performed by the homeowner at the conclusion of the mitigation and dry out of the home. |
